Account & getting started

Open Sign up on the HarMat website (or app). You can register with email + password, or continue with Google.

After signup, verify your email if the system asks — check Inbox and Spam. Once logged in you start as a reader: browse the catalog, buy books, use your library, short stories, score, and wallet.

Tip: use a phone number and clear profile photo early — both help later when you switch to author.
From your profile menu open Settings → Become an author (or choose author when registering).

That unlocks Author Studio — your work desk for uploading books, royalties, agreements, payout methods, and co-authors.

You keep the same login. Reader features (shop, library, community) stay available; publishing tools live under Author Studio / Dashboard.
Yes — one HarMat account, one login.

• Reader side: catalog, cart, orders, library, stories, score, wallet.
• Author side: Author Studio for books, review status, royalties, agreements, payouts.

Switch from the website menu or Author Studio shortcut anytime. You do not need two emails.
No signup fee and no fee to list a book for review.

HarMat earns from the non-author share of each sale’s MRP (and from reader shipping on print, which is charged separately at checkout). You are not billed to “be listed”. You earn royalty when readers buy.

Admin approval & profile checklist

Right now admin expects: Contact number, Author bio, Profile photo

You can open Author Studio and start a book draft. Before full publishing privileges, admin may require profile items (see checklist above). Complete them → status moves toward approval. You get notifications when admin approves or asks for fixes.
Separate from book review. `is_approved` on your author record means HarMat trusts your account for publishing flow. Until approved, some actions may wait — check your Author Studio dashboard banner for exact status.
Admin toggles these in settings: phone, address, bio, profile photo, website. Only switched-on items appear on your checklist. The list at the top of this section shows what is required today (3 item(s)). If admin changes settings, your dashboard updates and we may notify you.
Usually a few working days after your profile is complete. Busy periods take longer. You can still prepare book drafts while waiting; publishing go-live may need author approval + book approval together.

Verified badge

Shows readers you are a recognised HarMat author. Appears on profile/avatar when admin grants it — not the same as “author approved to publish”.
Platform setting: Yes. When on, Author Studio → Get Verified shows steps. Submit → admin reviews → badge goes live on approval.
Author approval = publishing access checklist. Verified badge = public trust mark. You can publish after author approval without badge, and badge without changing royalty rates.

Adding a book — every field

Author Studio → My Books → Upload

Full title as readers should see it. Slug/URL is generated automatically.
Pick the best fit — catalog and filters use this. Required before submit.
Keywords (e.g. romance, spirituality). Help search and “related books”. Pick popular tags or type your own.
Blurb for cards and listings (~500 chars). Hook the reader quickly.
Back-cover style detail — plot, audience, why read it. Shows on book page.
eBook only = digital in-app reader. Print only = paperback PDF + print price. Both = reader chooses format at buy.
MRP in ₹. Set 0 for free eBook — readers Add to library without payment. Royalty on paid ebooks uses this price.
Paperback MRP — the listed book price only. Must be > 0 for print. Shipping/delivery is not inside MRP; the reader pays it separately at checkout (pincode-based).
For print/both — used for production estimates and reader info.
Leave blank. HarMat assigns ISBN from our Raja Rammohun Roy publisher pool when published.
High-quality JPG/PNG. First thing readers notice — worth getting right.
Yes. Paste full text from Word/Google Docs. Long paste works on mobile too (long-press → Paste). This becomes the in-app reader content. Alternatively some workflows use file upload — follow what your form shows for your format.
Required for print/both. PDF sized for printing (max ~30MB). Not the same as eBook text — this is the physical layout.
Draft = private, auto-saves, finish later. Submit = sends to admin queue (`pending`). Until approved, not public in catalog.

Publishing flow

1) Fill form → 2) Submit for review → 3) Admin checks quality/policy → 4) Sign agreements when released → 5) Published → catalog + your author page. Notifications at each step.
Major edits may need re-review — use request edit flow from My Books. Typos and minor fixes depend on current policy shown in Studio.
No upload fee. On each sale, royalty is calculated on MRP only. The non-author share of MRP covers print production, packing, payments, and platform — not reader shipping (that is separate at checkout).

Marketing & visibility

HarMat: catalog, search, tags, author page, related books, occasional featured spots. You: social media, WhatsApp, launch posts, share link on book page. Free titles need your network most.
No. Featured/homepage/banners are curated — quality and timing, not automatic per upload.
Share HarMat link, complete profile, post short stories, ask early readers for honest reviews, use tags well.

Royalties — with examples

Default rates shown — yours may differ in Author Studio → Royalties

By default new authors get:
• eBook: 50% of the book’s MRP
• Paperback: 20% of the book’s MRP

If you are logged in, the numbers at the top of this page show your personal rates (admin can set a custom % per author). Always confirm in Author Studio → Royalties — that screen is the source of truth.

Royalty is calculated on MRP (book price), not on shipping.
Example with MRP = ₹500 (this is only the book price):

• Your royalty (20%) → ₹100 per copy sold
• Remaining 80% from MRP (₹400) → printing, packing, payment gateway costs, and HarMat platform / team operations

Shipping is NOT taken from this MRP split. The reader pays a separate delivery charge at checkout based on pincode. That delivery amount is not part of your royalty base.

So: MRP → author % + platform/print share. Delivery → reader pays extra. No second hidden invoice to you.
No.

• MRP = listed book price only
• Shipping / delivery = calculated at checkout from the reader’s pincode and shown as a separate line
• The reader pays MRP + delivery (+ tax if applicable)
• Your royalty % applies to MRP only — not to the delivery charge

Please do not tell readers that “shipping is free inside MRP” unless HarMat runs a special promo that clearly says so.
Example with eBook MRP = ₹199:

• You earn 50% → ₹100
• Remaining 50_platform% (₹99) covers hosting, in-app reader, payments, support, and platform maintenance

There is no physical shipping on eBooks. Free eBooks (price 0) go to the reader’s library without payment — no royalty on a zero-price free claim.
No mystery fee is deducted after your royalty line is calculated.

• Dashboard royalty = your % of MRP (or of your basket-allocated share)
• Print production cost comes from the non-author portion of MRP — it is not stacked as an extra bill on top of your %
• Reader shipping is a separate checkout charge paid by the buyer — not subtracted from your royalty

If a promo turns off basket royalties, that will show in settings/dashboard — it is not a silent cut.
After a sale is confirmed, royalty appears as pending in Author Studio → Royalties.

To withdraw:
1) Add a payout method (bank / UPI) and keep it verified
2) Cross HarMat’s minimum payout threshold
3) Payouts run on HarMat’s schedule — you will see pending vs paid history

Incomplete bank details delay payouts even if earnings exist.
Reader pays one fixed basket or combo price (not the sum of every MRP).

That price is split across the included books in proportion to each book’s MRP for the chosen format. Your royalty % then applies to your book’s allocated portion — not to the full basket total.

Basket royalties platform-wide right now: Yes. If OFF for a promo, books still deliver but no royalty rows are created for those basket orders.
Primary author invites a co-author from the book’s co-author screen and sets royalty shares. Primary must keep at least 10%.

The co-author must accept the invite and sign the co-author addendum. Until then their share does not activate.

On each sale, the book’s royalty pool is split by those shares. Co-author agreement does not replace the primary Common / Book agreements.

Agreements

One platform-wide contract between you and HarMat — roles, royalties, content rules. Sign once when admin releases it. Author Studio → Agreements → Common.
Per-title addendum for a specific book (rights, edition, special terms). Appears when admin attaches it to that book. Sign before or around publish — status shows pending/approved.
Open View & Sign → read → draw or upload signature → submit. Admin approves signature; until then status stays pending.
Yes. Invite → co-author accepts → signs co-author addendum with agreed royalty share. Does not replace primary book agreement.

Points & Score

Reward for reading and community activity — daily login, reading minutes, finishing books, reviews, stories, streaks. Shown on Score Dashboard (level, streak, leaderboard).
Same system as readers when you read on HarMat. Publishing itself does not auto-grant big XP — engagement does. Monthly awards use separate score weights for author/reader leaderboards.
Yes. Royalties = real money from book sales. Points = gamification + wallet conversion (below).

Wallet

Store credit on HarMat. Wallet enabled: Yes. Convert points to wallet balance, then use at checkout on books (including baskets).
100 points = ₹ 1. Minimum convert: 100 points. Conversion open: Yes. Profile → Wallet.
Book purchases on HarMat checkout (partial or full if balance covers total). Does not replace author royalties — reader-side spending only.
No. If a reader pays with wallet, royalty is still calculated on the book/basket price before wallet discount — authors are not short-paid because buyer used wallet.

Book Basket & Combo

Fixed-price offer: reader picks N books from eligible catalog into a “bag” and pays one basket price (e.g. any 3 for ₹499). Good for reader choice promos.
Fixed bundle — exact books pre-selected by admin. Reader buys the set as-is, often with visible savings vs total MRP.
Admin selects eligible books or combos. If your book is included, sales appear in orders/royalties with basket allocation rules.
Your share of basket price by MRP proportion × your royalty %. Basket royalties platform-wide: Yes.
